Moneyshake Car Oscars: Which Cars Do Our Customers Love In 2022?

< Back to blog

The Academy Awards is just around the corner, but while Hollywood actors receive plaudits for their roles in films, we’re moving away from the big screen and focusing our attention on cars.

That’s right, we’re quite literally putting the ‘cars’ in ‘Oscars’, looking at the most searched cars on our website from customers visiting us for a new vehicle.

So, let’s get straight into it.

The award for most searched SUV(s) goes to…

Kia Sportage

Kia Sportage 1.6T GDi GT-Line

After undergoing an impressive facelift, the brand-new Kia Sportage has rightfully earned its stripes.

Kia recognised that the dramatic styling of its flagship electric car, the EV6, was one of the key factors that made it a roaring success from the get go. So, why not apply the same logic to some of its existing models?

The result is a very sleek-looking front-end that puts it up there with some of the best SUVs in the class.

Loads of passenger and boot space, a flexible 40/20/40-split folding rear seat configuration and a brilliant engine range also make the Sportage a worthy winner in this category. We’re not surprised that it’s the most searched for SUV on our website.

Nissan Qashqai

Still one of the UK’s most popular SUVs, the Nissan Qashqai pretty much single handedly kickstarted the popularity of affordable family SUVs.

This second-generation Qashqai has a lot going for it to, including award-winning safety technology, a revised front-end design and the option of poky yet frugal petrol-mild hybrid engines.

Nissan has also generated a buzz around future Qashqai models after it announced the introduction of a full hybrid model. Known as ‘e-Power’, this engine is expected to be combination of a 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit and will have a 185bhp electric motor. The result is expected to be lower CO2 emissions, improved efficiency, yet greater power and performance.

The current Nissan Qashqai range is a fantastic choice for a family car if you need generous space, cheap running costs and tech-savvy onboard features.

The award for most searched hatchback(s) goes to…

Volkswagen Golf

The new Golf GTD

It’s hard to compete with the all-round class of the Volkswagen Golf, which seems to offer something for everyone. Whether you need a car suitable for a small family, big family, a reliable car that will get you from A to B, or want one of the best hot hatches, you can rely on the Golf.

It’s no surprise, then, that it’s our most searched hatchback by our customers.

Then you throw in the fact that the latest MK8 Volkswagen Golf has a stunning design inside-out, plus Volkswagen’s latest and greatest digital cockpit and that same VW material quality that we’ve been used to for so many years.

Who could blame you for choosing a brand-new VW Golf? Certainly not us.

Mercedes-Benz A-Class

Mercedes - A Class 180 SE Manuel 6 speed

One of the most luxurious hatchbacks available on the market. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class has big road presence for such a small car, mostly thanks to the huge three-legged star badge that graces the front of it, but there are other reasons too.

Like its Volkswagen Golf rival, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class can be specced in a variety of guises. After something frugal? Check out the entry-level A180 petrol or A180d diesel A-Class models, which are also the cheapest versions to lease. Or, if you’re looking for the perfect business lease option, then the plug-in-hybrid A250e offers very cheap company car tax rates and is also affordable to run thanks to the fuel-saving battery pack that lets you seamlessly switch between fuel and electric power.

There’ll be a percentage of you that want something a little hotter in terms of performance, in which case the A250 is the best option from the standard range. But if you want a ludicrously quick A-Class, then look to the standalone AMG A35 and AMG A45 hot hatches, which are even better still.

The award for most searched Executive car(s) goes to…

BMW 3 Series

The BMW 3 Series has proven time and time again why it’s top of the executive car class. Businesses can’t get enough of its well-built design, engaging rear-wheel-drive setup and, most importantly, the way it seamlessly ferries clients in comfort.

Another selling point is that it’s one of the few BMWs to have not ditched the previous ‘Bimmer generation’s kidney grille. Other models in the range have opted for the divisive and somewhat radical new grille, but it’s each to their own.

All BMW 3 Series models come with a brilliant choice of engines as standard, all of which balance decent running costs, swift performance and driver enjoyment very well.

To top things off, there are a whole host of trim levels for you to choose from with the new BMW 3 Series range, with even the standard M Sport offering plenty of decent equipment as standard.

Tesla Model 3

Tesla Model 3

Still the best-selling electric car on the market, the Tesla Model 3 is an excellent option for personal and business customers alike looking to make the switch to an electric car, and that want to do it properly.

There are plenty of perks to owning a Tesla that go far beyond the mere status that comes with being part of a select group of premium EV drivers.

That’s because the Tesla Model 3 is just a brilliant electric car all-round. In real world conditions, you can expect the standard RWD model to travel around 198 miles between charges. However, there’s a Long Range model, available to lease with a bigger battery pack, that bumps these numbers up to around 224 miles. You’ll also have access to Tesla’s Supercharger network, which can achieve an 80% charge in around 30 minutes – perfect if you’re on a long-distance journey and need a healthy rapid charge to keep you going.

All Tesla Model 3 owners will have access to Tesla’s over-the-air software updates, too, so that the car can be personalised to your liking at the push of a button.

Turning our attention to the road, and the Tesla Model 3 gets rapid acceleration, regardless of version you choose. In standard RWD spec, 0-60mph takes just 5.8 seconds, though Long Range models get an extra electric motor and all-wheel-drive, so acceleration is cut down to 4.2 seconds. At the top of the range, Performance models are the sportiest, with a ludicrously quick 0-60mph sprint time of 3.1 seconds.
