Top 8 Romantic Cars From The Movies
< Back to blog
While we remain stuck indoors throughout February, binge watching romantic comedies on Valentine’s weekend is becoming a very real, and lets face it, attractive option.
As car finance specialists, movies get a big green tick from us whenever we spot a great car in them. And we have spent the last week picking out our favourites and fine tuning that list down to just eight.
So before you get comfortable with the TV remote and a tub of ice cream that says it serves four, let us take you through eight of the best cars from romance movies.
Looking for a car to whisk that special someone away in? Check out our latest deals on Moneyshake and find the the right deal for you.
1. Grease – 1948 Ford De Luxe

Tell me more, tell me more, like does he have a car? Well yes, and its an absolute classic.
Despite picking up a few knocks after its pulsating race down the Los Angeles river – the 1948 Ford De Luxe used in the first Grease film remains a flag-bearer of romantic movie cars. The aptly named Greased Lightnin’ car had us all dreaming of those summer nights spent strolling and drinking lemonade.
We could go on for pages, squeezing cheesy-Grease lines in to our review. But we’ll move on before we become hopelessly devoted to it…
2. La La Land – 1982 Buick Riviera
A real tear jerker among the Moneyshake office. The 2016 modern classic, La La Land, features a jazz enthusiast cruising around the streets of Los Angeles in a deep-red 1982 Buick Riviera.
Despite everyone in LA seemingly owning a Toyota Prius, traditionalist Sebastian’s Riviera adds to the list of things that set him apart from the rest of the world.
Although, Ryan Gosling could whisk us away in a Fiat Multipla and we would have no complaints.

3. Always Be My Maybe – 1991 Toyota Corolla
A car so good that Marcus (Randall Park) kept it for over 15 years. During which period his old high school crush, Sasha, had become a famous celebrity chef living in, you guessed it, Los Angeles.
Played by Ali Wong, Sasha is reunited with Marcus after he is hired to fit her air conditioning. She is shocked to see that her old flame is still driving the same, somewhat-memorable, Toyota Corolla that he drove in 2003.

Toyota has given the Corolla a serious facelift since those days however – and you can compare leasing offers on the popular family car at Moneyshake.
4. Notting Hill – 1998 Peugeot 406

It wouldn’t be a list of romantic comedies if we didn’t include this iconic pillar of British filmmaking.
In a film that sees a world famous actress (Julia Roberts) fall for a modest book store owner (Hugh Grant) during her trip to London – the plot hinges on Grant’s ability to get from one end of traffic-ridden London to the other in a friend’s Peugeot 406.
Thankfully, the sacramento-green estate car makes it in time for us to see our beloved couple reunite. Panic over.

5. Focus – 2013 Peugeot RCZ
The newest car on our list. Peugeot isn’t synonymous with producing flashy sports cars, but the RCZ shows signs of the French manufacturer’s attempts to shake that reputation.

The RCZ stands out in Will Smith’s Focus movie that features a flurry of impressive looking cars. Driven by Smith himself, the hero/con-man uses it as a getaway vehicle as he tries to escape with his colleague/lover played by Margot Robbie.
Unfortunately Peugeot discontinued the model not long after the movie. But it will still be remembered as a classic in years to come.

6. Legally Blonde – 2000 Porsche Boxster
Now when we were at school, an old, decrepit bus was your standard mode of transport. So turning up on your first day in a Porsche Boxster would definitely make you a few friends.
That is exactly what happens in Reese Witherspoon’s Legally Blonde. Her character Elle, enrols at Harvard Law School to get back at her ex, and initially sticks out like a sore thumb (not just because of the all-pink outfit).
In a classic feel good rom-com where the main character overcomes some sort of adversity to flourish, Legally Blonde also throws in the slick-looking Porsche for good measure.

7. Pretty Woman – 1989 Lotus Esprit SE
Any film that features Julia Roberts alongside Richard Gere in a tux should be high up on anyone’s must watch list. Throw a Lotus Esprit SE in to the mix and we have a real head turner.
A classic rom-com about two complete opposites falling in love against all odds. Pretty Woman features a significant scene where Robert’s and Gere’s characters meet in the Lotus, as she teaches him to drive it, despite it being his friends car.
A film that has stood the test of time, Pretty Woman provides not only great entertainment, but a great car to go with it.

8. Baby Driver – 1959 Chevrolet Impala Convertible
Okay, so this one isn’t technically a romantic comedy. But a movie with so many great cars that ends in such a feel-good romantic way, couldn’t be omitted from our list.
After playing getaway driver to a star studded cast, that includes Jamie Foxx and Kevin Spacey, main character Miles is treated to the perfect ending. As he is released from prison, Miles, known as Baby among the crime world, finds his lover Debora (Lily James) waiting for him in front of a convertible Chevrolet Impala.
As far as romantic endings go, it takes a lot to top Baby Driver. Not to mention the range of flashy sports cars on show throughout.
