Firecracker Cars Of 2021

< Back to blog

So many great cars have been released this year that it’s hard to keep track as new models come and go. However, with Bonfire Night closing in, our team of car boffins voted on their favourite. We’ve put them together in a list to show you our ‘firecracker’ cars from 2021!

1. Audi Q4 e-tron – PCP Sales Whizz, Suzi

Our PCP Finance Relationship Manager Suzi thinks that the Audi Q4 e-tron is electrifyingly good.

When asked what it was that twinged her twang about Audi’s latest electric SUV, here’s what she said.

“As we all look to go more electric, more ‘luxury’ manufacturers are coming out with high end electric vehicles. I feel this car perfectly balances luxury with being more conscientious to the environment.”

It’s hard to pick faults with this comment too when you consider how much onboard refinement there is in even the most ‘basic’ Q4 e-tron Sport. As standard, it comes with 19in alloy wheels, Audi Virtual Cockpit with two digital displays – one for the infotainment system and another for the driver’s display – three-zone automatic air con and heated front seats, among other features.

2. Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae – Customer Star Alisha

Whereas Suzi went for luxury, refinement and a serene drive, our Customer Service Co-ordinator Alisha has ramped things up with the Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 – Lambo’s final pure-combustion V12 production car.

The Aventador hardly needs introducing. It’s got a whopping 769bhp which is sent to both axles, which translates to a ludicrously fast 0-62mph time of 2.8 seconds. If that wasn’t enough, it also has a top speed of 221mph, making it officially the fastest road legal Aventador.

We all know that this is a genuine firecracker of a car – but what did Alisha make of it for it to be deemed her favourite car of 2021?

“This is definitely my next car. It’s such a good-looking model and so quick it would get me to and from work in the blink of an eye.”

3. Restomodded Electric Alfa Romeo Giulia GT – Data Magician, Alex

Alex, our Data Analyst, has always been one for unorthodoxy. He didn’t want to disappoint here either, choosing a restomodded vintage Alfa Romeo Giulia GT that has been transformed into an electric car with track-like performance.

Created by Italian firm Totem Automobil that specialises in redesigning historic cars from the region, this is a very impressive model when you consider it’s their first one to be produced. In total, there’s 518bhp generated from a rear-mounted electric motor, plus a chunky 50.4kWh battery that the company says will take you 24 miles between charges.

Weighing just 1,410kg thanks to carbon fibre being deployed inside-out, this lightweight design makes it uber-quick (0-62mph in 3.4 seconds). It’s only a bit of horsepower off the new bonkers-fast Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA.

Alex explained his choice of vehicle to us.

“What’s not to like? New cars of today just aren’t designed like this anymore, with its lightweight, low rider design making it a genuine head turner.”

4. Porsche Taycan (Rubystar Red) – Social Media Guy, Zakk

There’s starting to become a bit of a theme in this list of firecracker cars which is a big nod to how times are changing for automakers. That is, that the majority of cars are electric.

But our Social Media Manager Zakk has spiced things up a bit with his choice – the Porsche Taycan in the stunning Rubystar Red paint colour.

Besides its good looks, everything about the Taycan is ‘proper Porsche‘. By this, we mean it’s rapid, fun to drive and has bucketloads of quality throughout the cabin. It’s the reason why many consider it to be one of the best electric sports cars on the market.

You can pick a Taycan to suit your needs to, thanks to four versions being available – rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, then faster Turbo and Turbo S trims. Even the entry-level rear-wheel drive version has a healthy 312bhp which can be jacked up to 402bhp using the overboost mode. That’s enough to take you from 0-62mph in a claimed 5.4 seconds.

The colour is shouty, as too is the performance (even with a near-silent drivetrain). Zakk also had a lot to shout about when explaining his choice.

“I’ve gone for the Rubystar Red update to the Porsche Taycan that was released this year. It feels very GTA: Vice City and driving around in one with Billie Jean blaring out the speakers is every 25-year-old’s dream right?”

5. Range Rover – Marketing Consultant Guru, Lauren

Just like the recently revealed Range Rover, Lauren is a welcomed new arrival to the team.

Her choice of car is very apt, but that’s not the only reason behind choosing the brand-new Range Rover. It continues to be the ultimate Land Rover and there’s a lot to like about all the extra onboard luxuries and updates that have been thrown into this model.

Here’s what Lauren had to say about the newest Range Rover.

“I love how they have combined the prestige of the brand with a new sleek design. It also comes as a hybrid which shows that they are thinking about the future and evolving as a company. It is the definition of luxury.”

6. Hyundai Ioniq 5 – Leasing Sales Champ, Simon

Another new arrival comes from one of the more senior members of the team, Simon.

Simon’s been here since day one and his choice of the Hyunda Ioniq 5 shows how he’s still bang on-trend. For this is an EV that’s flying off the shelves because of its sharp looks and chunk batteries which promise an official range of at least 240 miles.

All Hyundai Ioniq 5’s come with family-friendly dimensions, affordable running costs and a very modern interior which will be enough to tick the boxes of most drivers.

Don’t just take my word for it though – here’s what the man himself thinks about the car.

“My favourite car of 2021 is the Hyundai Ioniq 5, due to its dashing good looks, the total opposite of me!”

7. Alfa Romeo Giulia GT – Ms. Organised, Sonja

A second Alfa Romeo to make our list of firecracker cars and it’s no surprise when you consider that the Giulia GTA has been one of the most anticipated cars of 2021 since it was teased.

It clearly resonated with our Marketing Pod Manager Sonja, who didn’t hesitate for one second when putting her vote in for her favourite model of 2021. In fact, her answer came in as quick as the top-spec GTAm version of this car sprints to 60mph from standstill (3.6 seconds!). Okay, maybe it wasn’t quite that quick, but you get the point.

So, what was Sonja’s verdict?

“It has to be the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA, based purely on the fact that the green colour reminds me of the green airwave gum packet.”

8. Ford Mustang Mach 1 – Cpt. Content, Cameron

The Ford Mustang Mach 1 hasn’t been around for 17 years but its absence has well and truly been made up for with the arrival of the latest version.

Cameron is the smallest member of the team, so it makes sense that he’s chosen a muscle car that has loads of presence and makes a helluva noise from the V8.

Let’s not assume his choice of car was because of some ‘small man’ complex, however. Here’s what he had to say about his choice.

“Everyone knows that the Ford Mustang is the ultimate icon of American muscle cars. I wouldn’t say it’s the most pracitcal choice for British roads, but anyone who chooses a car like this isn’t doing it for reasons of logic.”
